About me

My name is Bonnie, I’m 18 years old and I am currently a Business Level 2 student at Abingdon & Witney College.  

As a part of my course, Business Level 2 covers so many areas of general business including recruitment, marketing, accounting & finance, and team leadership. Across March and April, all business students have a 3-week period of practical work experience.  

For my first 2-week work experience placement, I got in touch with Thompson & Terry Recruitment because they cover everything that I was looking for! 

My interests in business and my past experience 

My interest in business developed when I first studied it as a GCSE subject which I enjoyed immensely and studying Business Level 2 has given me the chance to grow my knowledge of recruitment, marketing, finance, and team leadership. My main area of interest is in international business and coming into this placement with Thompson & Terry Recruitment, I was excited to take on duties on the marketing side including writing this blog, featuring in a ‘Job of the Week’ video and making my own Q&A.

I have previously gained understanding of business within the hospitality environment, mainly through my part time job at Estelle Manor. One of the most important skills I have learned, both through paid employment and during this placement, is the importance of communication to the success of business and also teamwork.  

One of my passions in business is customer satisfaction, which is an exceptional skill to have because it can be used online or in-person. Customer service has a huge impact on your ability to interact with people and to your marketing strategy. I have learned at college that businesses often lose revenue due to poor customer satisfaction and this is one of the reasons why I have gained an interest in marketing.  

My biggest achievement in past employment was winning a bottle of Moet Champagne after delivering a great experience to customers and recommending our finest Don Perignon!

• How to build a professional CV and what to look for on a good CV 

• Filming social media content including a ‘job of the week’ video which got 500+ views across all platforms and a Q&A

• Using excel spreadsheets to bring together competitor information

• Using Xero to file and submit expense claims

• The importance of having a strong social media following – I helped T&T gain 30+ followers on LinkedIn

• Creating new pages for the Thompson & Terry Recruitment website 

• Finding potential radio interviewees to join Ben on his Get Radio Business Brunch 

What did I enjoy the most at T&T? 

I loved how welcomed I was on my first day at Thompson & Terry Recruitment. Throughout my time here, everyone has been so kind and polite to me; we even started cracking jokes the minute I got here!  

I felt confident to complete independent work because the tasks were explained clearly, and no questions that I had was left unanswered. I like how much freedom there is here, having trust from the Managing Director and being trusted to complete tasks independently. 

How will this experience shape me for my future? 

The past 2 weeks at Thompson & Terry Recruitment have been incredible.

I have been given the opportunity to work with some lovely people and have grown professionally. Thompson & Terry have boosted my confidence, taught me all about recruitment and what stands out on a CV, allowed me to support with their marketing and how to be present and come up with ideas in group meetings. 

My advice to anyone who is looking for a potential workplace for work experience, would be to consider recruitment. Thompson and Terry Recruitment have treated me perfectly and helped me progress forward in just 2 weeks!

I cannot express how much I appreciate the willingness to mentor and setting an inspiring example of what it means to be a professional. Not only have you taught me the tricks of the business, but you’ve also shown me how much can be achieved with patience and gentle criticism.
