What I’ve learned in my first week, as a graduate in recruitment!
My first week at Thompson & Terry Recruitment has already been full of surprises and not the stressful kind! Hello, I am Olivia and I graduated in 2025, with a degree in Criminology from University of Plymouth and have since been looking for an exciting graduate programme, which is when I came across Thompson & Terry Recruitment.
One thing that’s really stood out to me is how interesting it is to be surrounded by people all doing very different roles while working towards the same goal. From recruiters talking to clients and finding the right candidates, to then working behind the scenes on processes and marketing, it’s a lot to take in but it’s also fascinating to see how every part of the business connects.
I’ve always been interested in social media and marketing. I love spotting new trends online and seeing how businesses strategize and use them to get as much coverage as possible. It’s been really insightful to see how a recruitment agency applies the same approach, but in a slightly different way to attract the right clients and candidates. Seeing marketing in action here has opened my eyes to how it works on a larger scale across multiple platforms, and how strategy and creativity come together to make an impact. I’ve been tasked to take on T&T’s TikTok page, which has been really fun and insightful!
I’m also learning just how valuable social media can be. It’s not just about promoting job posts, it’s a way to share ideas, spark conversations, and give others insights they might not have considered when recruiting. Helping to create content that informs and inspires, rather than just advertises, has been really rewarding.
Finally, seeing how the team works together. Each person in their own role, but all pulling towards the same goal has been inspiring. It reminds me that recruitment isn’t just about filling jobs; it’s about people, strategy, and creativity working together.
After just one week, I already feel like I’m learning something new every day and I can’t wait to see what the rest of the journey brings!
